So what exactly is CAD and how is it used at SVS?

CAD

CAD is an acronym for computer aided design. This essentially means that once a design concept is created, the CAD engineer can "draw" the design specs into the computer, edit them as needed and once complete send the design to the applicable manufacturer. The manufacturer then creates the product using the technology appropriate to the specs.

Since SVS specializes in office furniture, warehouse layout, and various ergonomic solutions, CAD is employed to meet custom requirements for our clients. These might include cubicle design, shelving to fit into unique or troublesome spaces. Most oftenly it is used to manufacture custom furniture.

The uses of CAD expand into nearly all areas of manufacturing including auto, aviation, aerospace (i.e. rockets and space), computer design, apparel and more. As you are reading this article, you are already using products that were designed using CAD.
